A Symphony of Resilience

The Storm Within: Facing the AVM
You know, they say 'different strokes for different folks,' and in my case, that couldn't be more true. I faced not just one, but three strokes, all stemming from an AVM, an Arteriovenous Malformation. It was a storm within, a sudden disruption that changed everything. But I quickly learned that dwelling on what was lost wouldn't change a thing. Instead, I chose to focus on what I still had: my spirit, my faith, and a determination to keep moving forward. It wasn't easy, especially spending 16 years in a wheelchair, but I refused to let it define me. I chose to see it as a chapter, not the whole story.

Finding Harmony in Recovery: More Than a Survivor
Being a stroke survivor is a journey of constant adaptation. It's about finding new ways to express yourself, new ways to live. I've always been a musician at heart – tuba, trombone, baritone, drums, trumpet, choir leader, you name it, I played it. My love for music was a part of me, and even after my strokes, that passion didn't fade. Though my path changed, I found new ways to create and inspire. I've written a book, not as a comedian, but as a humorist and author, sharing my experiences and finding the light in the midst of darkness. It's a reminder that even when life throws you curveballs, you can still find your rhythm.

Staying the Course: Faith and Forward Motion
It's true, life can humble you, especially when you face challenges like this. But if you keep God in your life and stay the course, doors will open. It's about perseverance, about not giving up, even when things seem impossible. I don't sit at home and cry about it; I accept what is and focus on what can be. Being a stroke survivor isn't easy, but we make it look good, don't we? It's about finding strength in vulnerability and sharing that strength with others. I'm here to tell you that you're not alone, and that with faith and determination, you can overcome anything.
